Our Mission and Focus
Core Values:
-
Every child is a unique gift with intrinsic dignity and worth.
-
The needs of every child are best served within stable, healthy families and communities.
-
True peace knows no boundaries. It is created through reverence for and respect of the uniqueness and value of others.
Our Mission
The Children of Peace Foundation is dedicated to supporting Children and families, regardless of race, religion or cultural background, who have been traumatized by war, conflict, or abuse.
Current Focus
- Help the Holy Child Program fund 30 student scholarships. This represents an increase of five students.
- Increase the continuum of services offered through the HCP. Currently HCP provides an array of therapeutic services to address the individual needs of each child in their program. These services include, art, animal, music, play, dance, individual, family and milieu therapy, and are provided in the context of a bilingual (Arabic and English) school program. Additionally, the HCP staff provide home visits and link families with other social services when possible. The Holy Child Program has received numerous requests from families in the area to provide residential services for evaluation and transitional purposes. Again, these services are not available in the community and children are often placed in inappropriate settings, possibly causing further trauma.
- Provide additional training, consultation and supervision to the HCP staff in implementing and adapting evidence-based programs such as Trauma Focused Cognitive Behavior Therapy for children and their families.
- Purchase land and buildings to secure a permanent site for the HCP to ensure continuity of services as well as augment services for the children and families of this region.
- Help develop a formalized intern and volunteer program for HCP.
Goals
- Provide training, education and consultation in implementing programs that are culturally sensitive and developmentally appropriate for traumatized children and their families.
- Promote the emotional, physical, intellectual, familial, social and spiritual health of traumatized children through community-based school or day treatment programs.
- Provide/facilitate teacher/therapist training in evidence-based programs for traumatized children.
- Provide financial aid/scholarships for children and families unable to pay for therapeutic treatment.
